It all starts with her thorough disillusionment with her tradition-bound, unfeeling, emotionally sterile lawyer-husband who is given to treating her as a piece of property, as one who fulfills his sexual and social needs.
Her deliverance comes in the form of Ameer, a client of her husband. Their very first meeting is an emotionally charged and sexually cha,am experience. His looks pierce her clothes and caress her all over her body. This is a new experience for her.
She has never known anything so exhilarating like that before.
When finally Ameer embraces her, in the absence of her husband of course, she reacts with a cry of joy and after he is gone she kisses herself in the mirror and feels that Ameer has endowed divinity on her. This realization marks the death of her old self. She plunges headlong into a life of passion and bliss with Ameer. Equally puzzling is the complete blocking out of all details of his background. For a while Rajeswari agonizes over whether she is driven by animalistic lust or noble love or the simple desire to free herself from the shackles of soul-killing traditions.
One more charector is Meera a handsome sixteen years boy. After Ameer has gone away Rajeswari turns to Meera in a major way for emotional and material support.

Its released around February I liked one song from this movie. Just listen the audio version for some good romantic lyrics: Oct 26, Aruna Kumar Gadepalli rated it really liked it Shelves: One of the dynamic I call him dynamic for his views on human relations during the days when such views are not even spoken in public writers in Telugu literature. For his views on women and their freedom of thought. His views on relationships which all his works portray which are thought provoking. View all 13 comments.
Jul 17, Uday Kanth rated it really liked it Shelves: Maidanam – a book that challenges orthodoxy and throws free-will at your face! Because when you get down to it, who decided what is right and what is wrong? What is the basis for that classification? And why are we so fussy about morality when all morality is subjective? The book has our protagonist – a young housewife in an unhappy marriage – do and feel things which could be considered revolting even going by today’s standards it’s actually astonishing that this was written in the s.
Ther Maidanam – a book that challenges orthodoxy and throws free-will at your face! There’s a considerable debate around lust and desire, a woman’s sexual expression and right, of power and subservience, and the extent and limits of what one calls “love”.
On the surface, yes it is indeed a feminist book, but dig deeper and you’ll see this book talks for much more than that. Or maybe it’s just me reading too much between the lines. Because you might not agree with everything this book tries to convey, but the crime would be to deny a person of their right to think otherwise. Aug 30, Santhoshi Srilaya rated it really liked it Shelves: I enjoyed reading the book. The theme was very fresh with a young woman owning her choices and freedom book was written in What I found interesting was that when she was challenging conventional norms, she was doing it because of her insane love towards Aamir and not necessarily to break stereotypes.
To me, the book was more of crazy romantic narrative rather than a feministic one. The complexities in narrator’s character shines brightly. One unsettling thing for me was how the book gets I enjoyed reading the book. One unsettling thing for me was how the book gets creepy at many instances.

Difference between social norms and individual freedom is well protrayed in this book. One should have a deep understanding of belief systems.
I appreciate Chalam’s courage to write this novel 90 years back and boks reflects current day’s situation. Donot just read it and put it aside just like other fiction novels. Interpret philosophical points from the story and think about what made chalam to write this kind of story. Feb 14, Butchi Reddy rated it it was amazing.
